When printing nothing prints or a spurious message about the database not existing at c:\Program Files\FSA\FIRSt5 2005 or just c:\, e.g.Database path 'c:\' is not pointing to the file 'first.mdb'
Solution: check using First2005 version v1.1.18 and:
- the name of the database (including the mdb suffix) is lowercase
- the database name in the 4th line of the first.ini file (in C:\Program Files\FSA\FIRSt5 2005) is also lowercase.
Example of the contents of a first.ini file:
[Options]
NewVersion=False
Server=https://firstweb.fsa.gov.uk:443/receive.asp
Database=C:\Program Files\FSA\FIRSt5 2005\first.mdb

Error related to access violation when attempting to do submission via the internet, such as "Error No 407, Description = Server returned error information for request."
Solution: User must have direct internet connection or transparent proxy server for the return submission, over the internet. User will have to resort to email submission for the First2005 returns to FiRSt5.2005@fsa.gov.uk.

How can we confirm that the transmission sent via the Internet to the FSA has been successful or can the link be initially tested ?
Solution: (a) The message "Return Submitted Successfully" with date and time stamps will be displayed on your PC and you can do a screen dump.
(b) There is no mechanism for testing the web-link into the FSA. Users should follow the procedure in (a) above when doing a live submission.
-
System does not accept user name / password
Solution: If the user name / password text contained the character looking like an 'l'or 'i' this may be be the digit '1', or character ‘l’'i' upper case or letter 'l' lower case or vice versa, likewise if the logon contained the character 'o' this may be actually the digit '0' or vice versa.
-
The Directors' Declaration did not print after submitting over the Internet or there were previously two signatures required for this form, but there is now no mention of signatures on the form.
Solution: (a) The FSA do not require the Declaration Statement when online or email submission is used. However, you can still print it for your own records by going into the file print option.
(b) Signatures are no longer required for FiRSt5 submissions as per SUP 16.7.33(1)(c).
-
Error -2147467259 - Operation must use an updateable query
Solution:The user does not have full read/write permissions to the database (.mdb) file. Very often this is not in the same directory as the installation files (C:\Program Files\FSA\First5 2005). Contact local IT support to arrange the required permissions.

Cannot download software due to Internet restrictions. Can you send the setup.exe code on a CD-ROM?
Solution: The First2005 software will be copied to CD-ROM for distribution when there is a stable version. The current version, v1.1.18, still has outstanding issues.
-
Can the installation and executable files be moved onto a network drive?
Solution:NO. Although First2005 will support the database 'first.mdb' installed on a network drive, all other installation files MUST remain on the local machine’s hard-drive.
For multi-users, First2005 needs to be installed on each pc upon which the application will be run, and the application pointed to the database on the network when the application is run for the first time.

Error -2147220999: Method '~' of object '~' failed

Many computer programs, including FiRSt5 2005 require MDAC in order to run properly. FiRSt5 2005 requires that MDAC 2.6
or above in order to run. FiRSt5 2005 installs MDAC 2.6 if and only if MDAC 2.6 or higher has not already been installed

MDAC can be corrupted in many ways but it usually occurs when an application program doesn't install MDAC properly.
